Introduction
USI Mobile Summer Camps are very special times – where close friendships develop and respect for
the mountains and wilderness is kindled – where the exciting community living is appreciated. For
many; USI Mobile Summer Camps is an experience of a lifetime; we believe that adventure-activities
are an important part of our being, hearing stories of yesteryear and finding out what our camp
friends are doing.
Unit Information
Our goal is to send you home feeling good about whom you are. To do this, we focus on appropriate
challenges, the consideration for others & personal growth. A time of physical challenge and thrilling
adventures. A precious educational happy time marked by great strides in personal development.
We offer 20 camp units organised by age group with a limit of 30 kids per camp. Group experience with lots
of individual attention, encouragement, acknowledgement, non-competitive experience built on the
developmental needs and interests of each camper.
Our free-choice program also makes it easy to get to know lots of people. This maintains flexibility
and open encouraging a spirit of acceptance and inclusion that people have with USI.

USI Summer Camps
Stand on the summit of a mountain and make a slow circle turn, feeling the power of a cloud scape, the
green embrace of those rough hills, a surge of big air. Sleep under the clear African skies next to
fauna & flora and open your eyes to watch the break of a new day. Snuggle your hands around a traditional
mug of fire brewed hot coffee. Cool off in the unspoiled river streams – Something you’ll experience in the
great outdoors are lots of mountain spaces that will draw you in and push you out. It’s time for an
incredible USI Mobile Summer Camp.
Out Camping
This is roughing it easy. Your group is transported to a campsite where you spend several days having fun,
meet new friends and get educated about the beginning of the earth.
Each camp has its own dedicated camp manager, ablution facilities, kitchen and restaurant areas as well as
bar facilities. Electrified fencing encloses the entire camp with 24hr security patrolling the perimeter
allowing guests to enjoy the African bush with peace of mind.
Our specially designed ablutions are eco-friendly and include full flush toilets with wooden seats. Private
hot water shower cubicles with hand basins have enough room for you to change in.
Our open lapa area provides the perfect setting for you to experience incredible African sunsets and great
SA cuisine. Huddled around the roaring campfires, you can be sure that many stories will be told - tales of
mystery intrigue and adventure.
Our stunning original nomadic style Bedouin tents provide an idyllic setting for you to savour exotic buffets.
Relax and enjoy a spit braai (barbecue) around a typical African campfire under the clear night sky and
experience the tranquillity & sounds of the African bush. Campers & 5 star gourmet chefs in your dedicated
camp kitchen will prepare tantalizing meals.
Counselling staff
Counselling staff members are assigned to a specific job in 1 camp unit. Every counsellor & tent counsellor
involved in the person-to-person relationship of guiding campers. They are responsible for a group of
campers. They write weekly reports to parents, maintain discipline and set a good example. Counsellors
also help campers with laundry, homesickness and personal hygiene.
Counsellors need to have the ability to observe camper behaviour, assess its appropriately effectively with
campers and peers and provide necessary instruction to campers. All must have the visual and auditory
ability to identify and respond to environmental and other activity, the cognitive ability to plan and
conduct the activity safely and the physical strength necessary to lead the activity 7 days a week.
Counsellors must be prepared minimal personal time and many rewards. Counsellors must enjoy young people
and effective discipline.

Counsellors Professional Development
Your summer will begin with eight to ten days of staff training. During this time, your professionals in
the field of child development, forests and parks, psychology will lead the seminar. You will learn about
leadership, team building, and how to be effective with children motivated by inspiring speakers to make a
difference in camper’s lives.
This training is applicable to any field that you might pursue in the future. Many employed people who have
worked at a summer camp. These individuals have most likely acquired leadership, good judgement, initiative,
integrity, good communication skills and the energy throughout the summer camp experience.
You will grow throughout summer while clarifying your long-term goals. If you decide to work with children, you are a step ahead. If you decide to work in another field you have experience behind you…
And when all is said and done, you'll leave with memories that linger forever!
